When a garden has two lives: Jean-Philippe Weimer
ArtisanCreating unique gardens is not the work of one person. You need to surround yourself with accomplices who share your curiosity and appetite for originality. Jean-Philippe Weimar embodies this type of partnership that makes you a better creative.
Thanks to Jean-Philippe, a self-taught lighting designer, a garden lives two lives: one during the day and one at night. He has always been keenly interested in illuminating gardens and creating spotlights that blend naturally into their surroundings. Imitating the sun, his fixtures cast light downwards onto plants rather than from below.
Jean-Philippe works with landscape architects to understand both the current and future needs of the garden. He then creates moveable light fixtures and installs them with his unique stake system so that they do not interfere with plant growth.
Jean-Philippe is deeply invested in each stage of the process, from collaborating with master glass blowers and blacksmiths to listening closely to the feedback of his installation team. His fixtures are both original works of art and impressive feats of engineering that stand the test of time.
Organic shapes, plants and minerals are all essential sources of inspiration for Jean-Philippe. He strives to create poetic light scenography that adapts to the particular ambiance of each garden. Here are some of his lyrical and bucolic creations that we recently had the pleasure of seeing up close at his workshop in the south of France.
